The Hunting Party season 3: Could it move over to Peacock?

Today NBC officially unveiled their 2026 fall schedule, even though the fate of one show in The Hunting Party currently remains unclear.

To be fair, we should begin this piece by noting that the Melissa Roxburgh crime drama was a midseason entry for the first two seasons, so there may never have been an expectation that they would change things up here. Yet, its future remains in a strange spot — its live + same-day ratings make it the weakest not-currently-canceled drama NBC has. However, at the same time, the first season performed well on Netflix, landing it at least briefly in their top 10. Peacock does not release streaming data publicly, but there are at least signs that the show could find a second life there even if the broadcast network moves on.

In speaking further about the show’s current state (per Deadline), here is some of what Jeff Bader, NBCUniversal’s President of Program Planning Strategy, had to say:

“We’re looking for places where we can grow the network, and that is a time period where we think we can do better … Nothing negative about Hunting Party, but for our linear schedule, we absolutely need to try and do a little bit better there.”

Just from that alone, it certainly does not feel like season 3 is going to be on the NBC schedule unless something changes. The fact that it has not been canceled yet suggests that discussions remain ongoing; we will post an update in the event that something shifts. One of the larger problems the network is running into is that save for franchises and/or Wolf Universe dramas, it has had a harder time launching some other original IP really ever since the end of This Is Us. It is just a very hard medium to compete in these days.
