As we continue to await the impending arrival of The Bear season 5 over on Hulu, there is good news still worth sharing today. After all, a new prequel story has shadow-dropped on the streaming service today!

This hour-long episode is titled “Gary,” and it serves as a prequel story set before the events of season 1. It features Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Michael (Jon Bernthal) on a trip, fittingly, to Gary, Indiana. This is a chance for of course some more personal conversations, but also a reminder of why “Cousin” is so important to the family in general.

In a post on Instagram, Moss-Bachrach confirmed that he and Bernthal co-wrote the episode, which is directed by executive producer Christopher Storer. We consider all of this a reminder that these people and the overall show have bought so much goodwill over time here that they have a luxury of creating stories like this. It is, after all, a show that has been rather daring from everything from episode length to then the particular guest stars we see at any given point. This level of variety is, at least in some ways, what has made watching the show so exciting over the course of time.

Now, we are still very-much aware of the chatter out there that the upcoming fifth season of the series could be the final one. While nothing has been confirmed when it comes to that at this point, we are still aware of the possibility — and also, it feels right. The only real question that remains for us is whether or not Carmy can get back to the restaurant, and doing some of the various things that he is good at. The problem is him not finding a way to enjoy them.
