Call the Midwife season 16 premiere date: An April 2026 update

Is there a chance we are going to hear something more about Call the Midwife season 16 between now and the end of April? It may go without saying, but of course we’d love to get a better sense of what the future of the franchise looks like.

After all, it is fair to argue that for now, some things regarding the future of the show are a bit nebulous. While a season 16 is confirmed, it is not going to be coming right away. In the short-term, the first thing that we are going to get here is a prequel that flashes back to some of the earlier days of Nonnatus. After that, we will get a feature film featuring some cast members, and then a proper season 16 after the fact that shifts the focus potentially to a community hospital — something that is similar but different from what we have seen in Poplar for the past little while.

So what more can we say regarding release windows right now? That is where some things here are rather complicated. The prequel is slated to begin around Christmastime, and that is the only thing we have confirmation on at present. Our feeling is that the movie should arrive at some point in 2027 (if we are lucky), and that would allow for the main show to return in 2028.

Is some of this just a projection? Sure, but it also does make some sense. You want enough time off to reset the story, but not so long that viewers start to forget a little bit about the show and they develop a new routine.
