Marshals season 1: Another reason for Monica Dutton death?

Marshals season 1

We know that following the Marshals series premiere on CBS earlier this year, there was a great deal of chatter especially around one subject: The death of Monica Dutton. Kelsey Asbille was a huge part of the original Yellowstone, and killing her off-screen was such a sudden and heartbreaking choice.

In the past, it was noted that scheduling was the primary reason why Monica is no longer on the show; however, is there a more complicated reason here tied to the larger TV industry? It is at least fair to wonder at present.

Without further ado, let’s get a little bit more into it. According to a new report right now coming in from Puck, Monica being written off may have been tied into long-term streaming deals in between Paramount+ and Peacock. The original Yellowstone is under a Peacock streaming deal, one that formed before Paramount+ came to exist in its current form. (We gotta imagine that there are some regrets there, no?) Anyhow, the way the deal supposedly works is that sequel series to the Kevin Costner original would fall under Peacock, whereas spin-offs could come to Paramount+. Killing of Monica helped to make Marshals into more of a spin-off.

All of this is fascinating to consider on many levels, but where does it leave the upcoming Dutton Ranch? We know that it is also being set for Paramount+, so our determination is that it has enough of a new setting and/or characters to make it stand out. We know that from the outside looking in, trying to figure out the terminology of any of this stuff can be quite a struggle.
