Is Colin Jost leaving Saturday Night Live for new Peacock show?

Are we in the midst of the final season for Colin Jost on Saturday Night Live? We would understand if there are rumors, just as there are always going to be with any cast member who has been a part of the show for a long period of time.
In this instance, though, there are some reasons for a little speculation. According to a new report coming from Deadline, the actor is actually going to be taking a more dramatic turn as dentist / drug kingpin Larry Lavin for a Peacock series currently in development. In addition to starring, he would executive producer along with Alex Barnow.

So when it comes to Jost’s future as Weekend Update co-anchor (among his many other SNL duties), the site notes that he does not have to leave in order to do his other job and the plan is, at least for now, to balance it all out. He would not be the first cast member to do something like this, as we have seen this for Aidy Bryant and Kenan Thompson in the past.
Ultimately, our hope here remains that Colin stays on the show however long he wants, as we do personally think that the dynamic duo of himself and Michael Che still works. We know that eventually there will be change, but that speaks to more of the sketch show’s format than anything else. What we can at least say for now is that this new TV gig won’t have anything to do with a potential departure.
After a brief hiatus, there is a new installment of SNL set to arrive in a matter of days. Jack Black is set to host.
