Scrubs revival spoilers: When is Dr. Cox coming back?

Scrubs season 10

We absolutely feel like the Scrubs revival on ABC has done a fantastic job of living up to some expectations — shows like this are really hard to pull off! The new characters are likable, and we do appreciate that the show did not just try to throw some of these people in the same spot they were in when we last saw then in season 8. (Remember, we’re most pretending that season 9 did not happen.)

Now, if there is one critique that we know a lot of people have, it is the lack of frequent appearances from original cast members. John C. McGinley, for example, was around early on, but has been gone virtually ever since. There is a reason for that, though, beyond Dr. Cox passing on his job to JD: McGinley is a regular over on Rooster, another comedy executive-produced by Bill Lawrence. It is the same reason we are only seeing so much of Judy Reyes as Carla, as she is a major part of High Potential.

Speaking to TVLine, ironically in a piece more about Rooster, star Zach Braff noted that you will see more Dr. Cox — with the site itself noting he will be around in the last two episodes of the season:

“I know the fans have been really eager to see John again, and I really want everyone to know he’s coming back … I can’t give away spoilers, but what we’re teeing up is a situation where, if we’re lucky enough to get a Season 2, he can be around a whole lot more.”

Creatively, we imagine that the real challenge here is quite simple: How much can Cox be at the hospital if he is not actively employed there? Also, is there a way for a guy as irascible as him to even exist in the workplace in 2026? Time will tell.
