The Bachelorette: Will Taylor Frankie Paul controversy hurt ratings?

We are now just three days away from the premiere of The Bachelorette on ABC and based on where things currently stand, it seems like it is still going to air. The network is still actively promoting the show and its lead Taylor Frankie Paul, despite a production shutdown of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and allegations of violence between her and her ex Dakota.
If you go onto social media, then you will see a myriad of people stating that they are not planning to watch the new season due to the controversy. So can you actually expect the ratings to nosedive, provided the season even makes it on the air?

Well, let’s just say that for now, trying to figure out a clear answer to this could prove to be rather complicated. Taylor’s other show is extremely popular, and there is a chance that she is going to be able to get a lot of viewers by virtue of that alone. There will be a number of people who do not watch, and then there is also the mystery that comes with The Bachelorette now airing on Sundays, a change from where it has been in the past.
There is a clear universe where numbers are down and the franchise goes out with a whimper. However, do not be surprised if the ratings do stay steady versus past seasons, mostly due to one sad reality: Controversy does seem to court viewership.
Are we at a tipping point now?
Absolutely. After the shocking video featuring Taylor and Dakota was shared today over at TMZ, we would not be shocked if this is the final straw for this Bachelorette season. Canceling something so soon before the premiere is extremely rare, but it could very well happen at this point.
