As many of you are more than likely aware at this point, the wait for a Call the Midwife season 16 at BBC One is going to be both long and painful. Would we love the show back sooner rather than later? Sure, but we’re also aware that the odds of that are slim to none … at least when it comes to the show we remember.

So while we do get into the months ahead, we do tend to think it is useful we map out some sort of premiere-date timeline. So what all can we share at break down at the moment? Well, considering some of the following below…

The prequel – This is obviously the first part of the equation for the franchise’s future, as it has already been announced and will premiere close to the end of the year. It is set prior to season 1 and we do wonder already just what it is going to look and feel like. Could it generate more nostalgia? Absolutely, and we would argue that this may very well be the point.

The feature film – There is no timetable for this as of yet, but we do wonder if the goal here is for some sort of launch in late 2027 or early 2028 — that way, there is at least something tied to the franchise around that time to keep viewers engaged.

Season 16 – This is where things get more interesting. Are we going to be stuck waiting until 2029 for it? Some of that may depend on what the folks at the BBC want, since they do have some choices. They could opt to give us the movie and this season the same year; or, are they okay with losing their spot on the traditional schedule for a certain amount of time?
