Abbott Elementary scores season 6 renewal over at ABC

While we are not altogether surprised that Abbott Elementary has been renewed already for a season 6 at ABC, it is still worth celebrating!

After all today, the network announced via a quirky video that the Quinta Brunson series is going to be coming back for another chapter — a decision that does leave us quite pleased. The ratings still remain solid for the comedy so many years in, but beyond that it also performs well via streaming. It remains one of the few network comedies out there that stays constantly in awards-show consideration and that also matters a great deal. So many shows in this genre are automatically lost in the shuffle and this has been used already as a launching pad for some other series — take Shifting Gears as a primary example. You also have the Scrubs revival being paired with it moving forward.

Now, is there is a chance that Abbott Elementary season 6 is the final one? We obviously hope not but at the same time, it feels reckless to sit here and say that it is 100% going to be around even longer. After all, the window around season 6 / season 7 is often when shows get much more expensive to make, and there is always a chance that the cast and writers could be interested in moving on to other things.

In the end, though, there will be a lot more time to think about the future down the road. For now, let’s just sit back, smile, and be grateful that there are a lot more opportunities to dive further into this world. This is something that a ton of shows out there simply do not get a chance to do.

Odds are, the next season will premiere at some point in the fall — we hope to have other news on it soon.
