In just a matter of hours, you are going to have a chance to see the latest The Voice: Battle of Champions episode arrive over on NBC. So what more can we say about it now?

Well, if you head over to the link here, you can see a sneak preview where JW Griffin performs The Charlie Daniels Band’s “Long Haired Country Boy,” and gets a great deal of praise from a lot of the coaches in the process. We can’t say that we’re even remotely surprised by this, given that everything we’re hearing from him right now is legitimately good. This is a guy who has a nice rasp and a tone that is pitch-perfect without trying too hard in the process.

Now if there is one major criticism we have of this performance, it is actually something technical on the part of production. Why is his singing voice cued so soft? Hopefully, this is just an issue with the audio uploaded this week by NBC, since his voice is legitimately lost at times amidst the band and the crowd noise.

That issue aside, we do think we are looking at someone here who has a reasonable shot of being around for a while. The one thing that we do really love about the series having no pure country artist on the coaching panel is that it does open up possibilities for real debates after the auditions. We can’t sit here and say that any one person is absolutely right for JW, and that is absolutely something that we love. It makes at least this part of the format so much better!
