Doctor Who season 16 premiere date: The best-case scenario

If you are like us, there is a good chance that you have been waiting with bated breath to see Doctor Who season 16 arrive on BBC One. Unfortunately, you are also likely aware that we could be waiting a rather long time in order to see it.
So what will a “long time” actually line up to mean here? Is there a best-case scenario to still be hopeful for? There are at least a few things to line up further here in this piece.

First and foremost, let’s just start off with the fact that a season 16 is more or less official, though there are still a lot of unknowns. We know that first and foremost, there will be a Christmas Special coming to BBC One later this year. However, there is no international streaming partner set as of yet following the apparent end of the Disney+ deal, and that does need to be figured out at some point in the process. From there, you have to then get into the question of who the next lead is going to be. Billie Piper is possible but at the same time, it’s never been official that she is the Doctor.
Due in part to the real lack of news out there about a season 16 partner outside of Britain, we do tend to think that for now, we’ll be lucky to get Doctor Who in the second half of 2027. At least one of the good things about this show is that it has a relatively evergreen quality to it — even if it has been off the air for a really long period of time, there are a lot of people who will come back to it.
