ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 3 spoilers: The layers of Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope

Have you been waiting to find out more about just what makes Olivia Pope tick? If you feel this way, you are certainly not alone; many a “Scandal” fan is currently chomping at the bit to learn what could be next for Kerry Washington’s Olivia, and according to the show’s own executive producer, the current plan seems to in part revolve very much around finally showing a few more layers as to where this character originally came from, and how this could impact the person she will be moving forward.

The first hint of the story moving in a more personal direction for Olivia surely came during the most-recent finale, when we saw the reveal of Joe Morton as Olivia’s actual father. To think, this is only going to be the tip of the iceberg for the character. Speaking to Vanity Fair, executive producer Shonda Rhimes tees up what lies ahead for the show with the following message:

“I think it’s time to unfold a little bit more about Olivia’s character. We’re in the writer’s room right now, and we’re still planning all that out. I have some very specific ideas, but we’ll see how much we unfold.”

Of course, it is very well possible that we could see the show trickle down over time when it comes to dropping hints about Olivia’s backstory, knowing that it is never a great idea to disclose too many details at once in fear of not having something to share later. She is a very complicated woman, and thus we expect her to have a complicated past to go along with it.
