Boston Blue: Andrew Terraciano speaks out on Sean recasting

We know that heading into the premiere of Boston Blue on CBS, there was a lot of shock with the role of Sean Reagan being recast. Andrew Terraciano had played the part for so many years on Blue Bloods and because of that, there was likely a hope among many fans that he would continue to be in the role.
As it turns out, though, this is not what happened. Instead, Mika Amonsen ended up taking on the part for the spin-off, and is a major part of the show — more so than the original Sean ever was.

So why make the change at all? All current indications are that it was done with a specific creative in mind. Speaking via Us Weekly, here is some of what Terraciano had to say about his time playing the character, and his feeling towards the recasting in general:
“It’s beautiful because you’ll always remember every single line and every day that you had the opportunity to be that character … It doesn’t mean for even a second that somebody else can’t go and do something beautiful with it … I got the joy of playing Sean, and I got to send him off into the world. Now somebody else gets that joy. We’re both getting to show what we do and then send Sean off into the world.”
This is a really classy answer from someone who has likely had some time now to simmer on the recasting and reflect on the character’s legacy. He went on to say in the article that he did hear from Donnie Wahlberg early on in the process and they maintain a good relationship, and that is obviously something that makes us feel a good bit of happiness.
