With the premiere of A Man on the Inside season 2 just days away from its arrival on Netflix, why not talk more about its central setting this time?

If you watched the first season, you are already acutely aware of the fact that a huge chunk of the story was set around a senior living facility. Some characters from that world are still going to be there but moving forward, the comedy will be moving Charles (Ted Danson) over to a college. This is something that suits him because of his life experience — though while there, he also will be front and center for another investigation.

So why put Charles on familiar turf at this point in the series? Some of it may be tied to comedy, but another part allows executive producer Mike Schur to comment on what is happening in the world. This is something that Danson himself illuminates further in a new interview with TV Insider:

“I love that everything Mike [Schur] writes about, even the setting, is important because a lot of stuff is happening with universities and colleges nowadays … [Many schools are removing] the arts and the music and all the different things that aren’t just purposefully [about becoming] billionaires … To address it head-on within the context of this story, it makes you feel good. You’re not just being silly, you’re being purposeful in what you talk about.”

In the end, the most important thing with A Man on the Inside season 2 is that you do continue to see Charles develop some sort of purpose, and in season 2, it may manifest in a different way. Are there some romantic sparks that are about to fly? It is possible, but he will have to contend with the idea of moving on along the way.
