Ratings: ‘Under the Dome’ slides, but wins; NBC’s ‘Siberia’ starts weak

Under the DomeFor “Under the Dome,” we said that CBS would probably be happy enough to renew the show so long as it draws more than a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with each new episode. Luckily, it still managed to do a pretty amazing job in its second outing, and if it goes somewhere near this performance again next week, a renewal should be imminent.

Overall, the juggernaut drew over 11 million viewers (a triumph in itself for summer series), and also a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This is down 0.4 from the preliminary demo numbers last week, but that’s not too bad for a new show in its second episode. Plus, this is a holiday week thanks to the 4th of July, and numbers traditionally do fall in the days before and after the holiday. Expect to see some more shows hurt even worse Tuesday, and then for repeats to enter the picture in a big way on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the news was not so great for NBC’s “reality” series “Siberia,” which was stupidly launched against “Under the Dome” and a new episode of “Mistresses.” With a 1.1 rating for its premiere, this is hardly something that NBC will consider bringing back, even if it is inexpensive to make. Given that it will suffer post-ratings declines, expect to see it go below a 1.0 rating next week. (Heck, even “Mistresses” beat it last night in scoring a 1.2 rating in the demo.)

What’s your take on the new “Under the Dome” ratings, and are they in your mind still pretty strong? We want to hear your thoughts below! Also, be sure to check out the link here to get a look ahead on what could be coming up on the show next.
