Dune: Prophecy season 2 receives larger episode count

We reported earlier this week that production was underway for Dune: Prophecy season 2 — so how about some other great news to go along with it?

Today, the folks at HBO confirmed that not only is the sci-fi prequel being filmed this season in Hungary and Jordan (which we imagine is a double for Arrakis), it will also be eight episodes! That is a longer order than the far-too-short season 1, which means that there is going to be a chance to dive so much further into all of these roles and the universe in general.

Now, why not talk more about the cast? While the specific roles are to be determined, the network revealed that Indira Varma (The Night Manager), Tom Hollander (Feud: Capote vs. the Swans), and Ashley Waters (Top Boy) are also set to play roles moving forward. They join a large cast that includes the likes of Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, Yerin Ha, Barbara Marten, and Tessa Bonham Jones.

As we have said in the past, we do not think that HBO or the Dune: Prophecy producers are concerning themselves too much with the schedule or release dates for the movies … mostly because they don’t have to. The goal here is to just create as good a season of TV as possible and while we know at least where one part of the story is going, it does still feel like there is an infinite amount of wiggle room for everyone to explore. Let’s just hope for something that is big and epic.
