Gen V season 2 episode 7: EP on big Godolkin, Cipher reveal

We had a feeling entering Gen V season 2 episode 7 that there could be a pretty huge twist at some point. However, we still weren’t ready for the end!
In the closing minutes of this week’s installment, we learned that Marie Moreau was actually not getting help from Thomas Godolkin to take down Cipher. As it turns out, he was Cipher the whole time and the guy we were seeing all season was “Doug,” a vessel that he was using as the Dean of the school. This was a unique twist, mostly because it folded into the other twist of him keeping Godolkin alive this whole time.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Michele Fazekas noted that there were a lot of little clues to this reveal through a lot of the season.
“We’re laying out little hints that, if you look back, you’ll be able to see it … Even the fact that — why does this guy just drink gross shakes with chicken and stuff in it? It’s because he doesn’t taste anything. He doesn’t care about this body. He’s just trying to keep it going to get to the end goal.”
All of this does make the twist feel a little more real and effective, and we do give the producers some applause for not just committing to it, but also allowing it to be so fun along the way. Now, what isn’t fun is the position that Marie now finds herself in, where she has to figure out exactly what exactly she is going to do. She has awakened someone who is now going to be out to murder weaker Supes to pursue his own end goals.
