If you were hoping to see great things when it comes to Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2 over at Prime Video, let’s just say that we’ve got bad news.

Per a new report from Deadline, the hit spy series is now “delayed indefinitely” through what the site refers to as cast issues. Mark Eydelshteyn and Sophie Thatcher were seemingly cast to be the new agents and there were plenty of other recurring / guest stars being targeted. Yet, here we now are and the future of everything here is a little bit cloudy. Sometimes delayed series do eventually figure things out and see the light of day. However, there have also been some other instances of them disappearing more into the ether.

What does make the future of Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2 a little more cloudy at this point is the simple fact that co-creator Francesca Sloane is heading over to HBO under a new deal, where she would write the first episode of Big Little Lies season 3. What that means for her own future here remains unclear. This entire situation is more surprising given that the first season, which starred Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, was such a big hit for Prime Video. Not only that, but the second season received a pretty huge tax credit to shift production over to California. All of this suggested that there was a real interest in getting things done and yet, here we now are.

Of course, all of this is made a little bit more frustrating when you consider the fairly shocking way that season 1 came to a close. Are we ever going to get some major answers to the cliffhanger we saw there? Only time will tell.

Do you think that a Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2 is going to happen?
