‘Parks and Recreation’ season 6 joins ‘Elementary’ season 2 with London-set premiere
What in the world is it about TV series wanting to go to London this year? When it comes to “Elementary,” it at least makes some sense given that Jonny Lee Miller’s title character of Sherlock Holmes actually hails from the city. As for “Parks and Recreation” … well, we’re still trying to figure this one out.
In a new post on TV Guide’s official Twitter page, it was revealed that the Amy Poehler comedy will be heading to London for its season 6 premiere. As you may know already, this episode is going to be an hour long, and air up against “The Big Bang Theory” on Thursday, September 26 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. (May the TV gods have mercy on its soul.)
The only logical explanation for the London trip is that some of the characters may be there on a vacation, given that there is not much carryover between the government of Pawnee, Indiana and that of a foreign country. Even still, the comedic possibilities for a show in this position are virtually endless, given Leslie Knope’s oft-misguided opinions and all of the aspects of London culture that generally seem to come across as somewhat eccentric to American crowds.
This marks the second time in the past few seasons that “Parks and Recreation” has taken such a gamble, as the show has also filmed in Washington DC in addition to Los Angeles. In addition to having a good story, obviously one other benefit of going overseas for a premiere is that it makes the episode into even more of an event than ever before.
What do you think: Is London a good destination for the new “Parks and Recreation” season premiere? If you want to see the full NBC prime-time schedule for the fall (including premiere dates), all you have to do is head on over to the link here.
