‘True Blood’ season 6 premiere review: Who is Warlow, and is Bill Compton back?
“True Blood” has been off the air for quite some time, so it was rather nice to have some sort of catch-up early on in the show to what was a pretty complicated fifth season. There was quite a bit to touch on in this premiere, but one of the real questions that we knew everyone had going into this season was what in the world is this new “Billith,” and can he really be trusted to protect anyone at this point?
The biggest thing that we learned about Bill this week is that he is one bad dude now that he has the Lilith blood in him. He knows that he has a new-found power within him that cannot be contended with, and he also cannot be killed. Eric warned Sookie to stay away from him, and she certainly wants to oblige; she also wants to try and get away from this entire vampire mess that started up in her life years ago.
Is Bill the real villain this season, or someone else entirely? At the moment, there seem to be a trio of primary candidates. You have him, evil and blood-soaked and promising to not cause any trouble, and the only person who seems to trust him is Jessica. Then, you also have Louisiana Governor Burrell, who wants to take down vampires by being sneaky. Then, you have the mysterious man in the car who picked up Jason. Rutger Hauer is on this show for a reason, and it was suggested that he is Warlow … but did Jason really shoot him? It was a strange way to end the episode and we are left with more questions then answers.
As for some of the other stories, Alcide’s quickly getting an ego courtesy of having a new position in Packmaster, Andy’s children have already aged a few years, and Tara and Pam have already started to feel the implications of having Governor Burrell’s ordinances try to shut Fangtasia down.
This was a great way to start the season, at least when it comes to combining some humor with drama and great characters. We could still do without the Alcide story, and there could have been more time devoted to the fact that Luna is now dead, and Sam is left to take care of her daughter.
