‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 debate: Could Elizabeth McGovern sing on the show?

CoraWhile you may not know this just from watching “Downton Abbey,” but one of the stars in Elizabeth McGovern has a fantastic musical sensibility to go along with one of her other obvious talents: The ability to act her face off. She is part of the band “Sadie and the Hotheads” that performs regularly around the United Kingdom during her time away from the show, and she enjoys the freedom to really jump from one of her passions to the other.

But is it possible that we could see her powers combine “Captain Planet”-style in the future? That will be up to series creator Julian Fellowes, speaking in an interview with Heatworld, McGovern talks whether or not she would sing on the show someday, and if she could convince her on-screen husband Hugh Bonneville (who has a long history of singing onstage) to join her:

“I could try but I don’t think I’d get very far! I could do it but I think Cora singing is far, far away from Julian’s imagination! … I think Hugh would need a lot of persuading [to duet with me] but you never know maybe one day! Watch this space – maybe I’ll have Mrs Patmore! A lot of the cast have seen me perform but I think food would help give me a chance, especially with Hugh!”

Even if McGovern’s Cora never belts out a note don’t worry, because there are still plenty of other reasons to look forward to seeing the upcoming fourth season, including new love interests for some characters, the Roaring Twenties spurring along social change, and just seeing all of your beloved characters again.
