‘Downton Abbey’ season 4: Dan Stevens believes more heartbreak will come
Stevens said that he was “sure that there will be [more shocking moments] to come” while discussing the reaction to the end of Matthew in an interview with the Radio Times, one in which he expressed basically what every celebrity in America thinks about Twitter whenever the general public starts to turn against them:
“It certainly shocked me that people were quite so vehement about it, but it speaks well to the character and to the show that people cared so much.
“The reaction is more extreme on Twitter because Twitter is a more extreme environment and under a veil of anonymity, people say all sorts of things they wouldn’t necessarily say in the street. In the street people are very sweet and generally understand, but there’s a certain enjoyment in the heartbreak which is part of the whole experience of Downton.”
It’s no surprise at all that Stevens has a handle on this, given that he is such an intelligent man, and he’s also unafraid to voice his thoughts on a given subject. He didn’t leave “Downton Abbey” out of spite, after all; he left simply because he had an opportunity to go after some other pursuits, and felt it was time for a change.
