‘Game of Thrones’ season 3: Kit Harrington, Emilia Clarke, more Emmy submissions
We’ve spent a good bit of time as of late talking about Emmy submissions this week, in addition to predicting some likely nominees, (which you can read a little bit more about at this link.) Earlier, we announced some shocking news which was that Brendan Coyle was not on the ballot for “Downton Abbey” despite being nominated last year; and now, we’re somewhat stunned that one of the primary deaths at the Red Wedding on “Game of Thrones” opted to not put his hat in the ring.
While there could be some details that come out a little later in the day, we now have caught wind on everyone from the show who has submitted for an individual honor. Do note that once again, no one submitting themselves as a lead since this series has an enormous cast.
Supporting Actor / Drama – Previous winner Peter Dinklage (Tyrion), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime), and Kit Harrington (Jon Snow)
Supporting Actress / Drama – Emilia Clarke (Dany), Natalie Dormer (Margaery), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn), Lena Headey (Cersei), Sibel Kekilli (Shae)
The biggest surprise on here is seeing Kekilli’s name; it’s not meant as disrespect, but it is just that there were some characters this season with larger impacts than Shae. On the actress side, the biggest omissions have to be Maisie Williams (Arya), Sophie Turner (Sansa), Rose Leslie (Ygritte), and the extremely-deserving Gwendoline Christie (Brienne).
As for the actors, Richard Madden (Robb Stark) is to us the biggest surprise, but why wouldn’t we have a submission from Charles Dance (Tywin)? We don’t really think that either has a shot at winning; then again, the only four actors we see with a substantial shot here are Clarke, Fairley, Coster-Waldau, and Dinklage. Peter is the closest thing to a lock given his history, and we will be curious to see where the other parts land.
In other news, Ciaran Hinds and Diana Rigg are in the guest categories, with the latter having a particularly good chance at a nod. If you do want to read some more of our Emmy preview series, the best place to go is over at the link here.
