‘The X Factor’ UK: Simon Cowell pours the praise on Olly Murs, One Direction
Well, here’s some proof that becoming a big star and changing who you are can be mutually exclusive. When you have piles of fame and screaming fans thrown at you, it would be very easy to just take it all in, and then morph into some sort of fame-loving beast who wants people to say wonderful things about you all of the time.
However, at least one former “X Factor” contestant is proving now that this is the way that you have to be. Speaking in a new interview with BBC Radio 2, Simon Cowell singles out a certain UK star in Olly Murs when talking about how some people have changed and evolved since first making their debut on the British version of the show:
“We never predicted this [their fame]. All we knew was we had five talented guys. They’re very smart these contestants, they knew the kind of records they wanted to make … Olly Murs is exactly the same guy as when I first met him, he hasn’t changed one bit, and I love that!
“As long as you keep everybody grounded, I say ‘all I can promise you is an opportunity’, and to take that opportunity and make the most of it.”
It’s interesting thus far how many of the UK acts (see One Direction) have managed to find a great deal of success worldwide, while America is still waiting for that breakout star. Emblem3 is working on it with “Chloe,” and we still have Fifth Harmony’s new single to hear a little later this summer. Hopefully, good things will come from both of them.
