2013 Teen Choice Awards analysis: ‘Nikita’ goes up against ‘Chicago Fire,’ ‘Elementary’

Teen ChoiceWe personally find the entire Choice TV: Action category at the Teen Choice Awards to be rather unusual, but we could also say the same thing about their reluctance to recognize much in the way of cable TV. Out of the shows that we have listed here, we don’t really think that teens are the audience of any of them. However, one probably does have a more active fan-base than the others, which is why it should be pretty apparent from the get-go which way we (and the voters) are probably going to lean here.

As always, we want you to chime in with your thoughts in the poll below! Think of it as a sample for the TCA voting, which you can do at this link. For more analysis of some of the other categories, we update the list daily here.

The nominees – “Chicago Fire” (NBC), “Elementary” (CBS), “Hawaii Five-0,” (CBS), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (CBS), “Nikita” (The CW)

The favorite – Well, let’s see here. “Hawaii Five-0” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” both skew extremely old when it comes to viewership, so we think most of the voters there will be older people posing as teens to vote. “Elementary” may have a chance just due to name recognition from casual voters, and “Chicago Fire” does have the Lady Gaga / Taylor Kinney factor. But we’re still saying that this is the category for “Nikita,” the series that has fans so passionate, they willed it to get a final season. They will fight for this award tooth and nail.

Who should win – For this reason, we have to echo the “Nikita” following. This season was pretty fantastic, so it has the edge on pretty much both quality and fan support. This show has always been about recognizing the voice of the people, and while there aren’t a ton of viewers here, they will all rally in a way in which we cannot see the other shows trying to do. It’s time that “Nikita” got some recognition for something other than scheduling or ratings.
