Our Flag Means Death season 2 viewership: Hope for season 3?

As we prepare for the Our Flag Means Death season 2 finale on Max a little later this week, we can’t help but think about a season 3. We’ve heard David Jenkins say in the past that a third season would potentially be the final one on the streaming service and with that in mind, we really want the story of Stede and Blackbeard to get some proper closure.

So is there more evidence via the show’s ratings that this is going to happen? Nothing may be a sure thing but for now, we continue to have a certain element of hope.

According to a report from The Wrap, the demand for season 2 of the pirate comedy has out-paced a number of other shows on the streaming service’s roster, and a lot of this is tied back to the slow-burn success of the first season as more and more people discovered it over time.

We will be the first to admit here that we have had our fair share of concerns over the potential viewership for Our Flag Means Death for a while, especially since Max, like other streamers, has a tendency to cancel shows significantly earlier than you would want to see them gone. Also, we’ve had our concerns that the release schedule for season 2 was making it feel like they were burning the episodes off far faster than they needed to. There is something to be said for a weekly release, which keeps people discussing things one episode at a time for more than just a handful of weeks.

Yet, after reading that report, we are more optimistic than ever for a season 3. We’ll just have to wait and see if or when that announcement comes out.
