Good Omens season 3 renewal likely; co-showrunner exits
As we look towards a possible Good Omens season 3 at Prime Video, let’s just say that we’ve got good and bad news.
So, where should we begin here? Well, the good news for now is that per Deadline, it does appear as though we’re going to get a third season of the Michael Sheen – David Tennant series inspired by the work of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Unfortunately, here is where we are met with somewhat of a curveball. In a post on Instagram, co-showrunner Douglas Mackinnon confirmed that he is no longer involved behind the scenes.
What this means for the future of the story remains unclear, but the sentiment for now is that season 3 of Good Omens is “likely” going to be the last one, and we will have to wait and see if that turns out to be the case. In a lot of ways, it makes some sense given that we’ve never heard Gaiman speak about plans beyond a third season. Also, it does feel like this is not one of those shows that can go on and on until the end of time. There is going to be a natural conclusion.
While we’re sure that the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have delayed certain aspects of the waiting process here, we also have to be honest and say that more than likely, we were not going to be getting a third season soon in the first place. Because of the time it takes to film and do special effects for a show like this, it feels inevitable that we’ll be stuck sitting around until 2025. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing, so let’s just hope that the stories ahead do 100% live up to some of the hype.
