‘American Idol’ champ Carrie Underwood to perform ‘Sunday Night Football’ theme
The first person to hold this title as lead-off singer was Pink back when the show started up in 2006, but it was changed the following year to Faith Hill, who has performed the song until deciding to call it quits earlier this spring. So who’s the new choice? It’s none other than former “American Idol” champion Carrie Underwood, which shows that NBC has a desire to keep themselves firmly planted in the country community.
In a new statement to reporters, here is what Carrie had to say about the opportunity to take over the gig for the foreseeable future:
“For me it just seemed like something fun to do, especially seeing Faith get that hype before the game. It seemed like a good fit and a good time.”
Underwood has yet to record any performances for the show, but is expecting to do so at some point within the next couple of weeks.
