‘The Amazing Race 22’ finale review: Did Bates & Anthony or Max & Katie win?
There have been times on “The Amazing Race 22” where we have sincerely questioned the level of competition this season, in particular when it comes to that leg in Botswana where we specifically saw almost every team in the competition do something ridiculous / awful.
However, this really was a pretty competitive final two hours of the season, and it had quite a bit to enjoy in between suspenseful challenges, conflict between the teams, and teams that we were somewhat invested in. (This is something we were genuinely worried about a little earlier on.)
With all of this being said, the first hour of the night was really a total dud. Thanks largely in part to their inability to succeed at the incredibly awesome (and incredibly gross) roadblock involving bog snorkeling: Country singers Caroline & Jennifer never had a chance in the world. It’s a shame, too, since there was a great chance for competition in an incredibly difficult detour that included trying to deliver the correct meal to people on a “Titanic”-inspired menu. Had they been a little closer, Mona & Beth probably could have had their sank them in record time. We really don’t think it was nearly as close as the editing made it seem.
As for the final leg, we did at least like the challenges. It was great to see Washington DC as the last setting of the season, just as it was fun to see the variety of pretty incredible challenges in here. We saw spies, baseball, President Obama photos, but in the end, a very predictable finish that wasn’t too close. Bates and Anthony raced to the finish line without any major trouble along the way, and they are now the winners of the season!
