‘Game of Thrones’ season 3: Reflections on Arya, Jaime, and Robb Stark
During last Sunday’s “Game of Thrones” season 3 episode, we had some pretty rough situations that unfolded for some of the characters. When it comes to Arya, it was yet again having to endure something that she has been through time and time already: The death of people who are meant to be good for her. It started off with Ned Stark back in the pilot, and things may continue down this path for her in the future. In the video below, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss detail what has been the character’s evolution to this point, and how Arya is a much tough and stronger person because of everything that she has been through.
When it comes to Jaime, the explanation for his drastic character change so far this season is pretty simple: The producers explain that George R.R. Martin loves to have his characters be at least somewhat ambiguous, and we are seeing through this story that there is a side to Jaime beyond just the Kingslayer persona. He can care about others, and work to defend their honor. With Jaime, it’s just a matter of whether or not he chooses to do so.
Finally, the video contains an explanation for how Robb’s marriage may be his biggest mistake. While he chose to be with a woman that he loves, he did so at the expense of Walder Frey and the joining of their houses. Not only that, but this decision caused some members of his army, who knew about the arrangement that was made between his family and House Frey, to start to question their leader and what his “word” is really worth. There’s only one word to describe what can come as a result of this: Trouble.
