‘Game of Thrones’ season 3, episode 5 review: Jon Snow learns something

Last week on “Game of Thrones,” the real stunner was seeing the complete and utter dominance by Danaerys. For the first time really since the very beginning of the series, we saw a huge move made by her that proved how big of a threat she is for the Iron Throne.

So did she keep that up this week? We didn’t even see Dany until a good 45 minutes into the episode, and her story was pretty limited during this episode. She ended up meeting the head of her Unsullied army in “Grey Worm,” and despite her orders for him to change his name along with the fellow soldiers, he claimed that this was his mark of pride. Not only that but it looks like there could be some consideration as to the future of Jorah with this camp.

With that being said, let’s move forward to what were some of the stories that took place over the course of  the “Kissed by Fire” episode.

Jon Snow – We feel like this is really the story that everyone is going to be talking about for quite some time, as we saw the former Night’s Watch member truly swear away his oath by being with Ygritte inside of a cave. It was a pretty passionate scene for sure, and also the best use ever of the line “you know nothing, Jon Snow.”

Jaime and Brienne – Somehow, this story also became even more brilliant, as somehow this man has managed to become incredibly sympathetic over the course of the past several weeks. We learned through that Jaime has been through quite a lot, and his bathtub scene with Brienne was somehow beautiful and shocking.

Robb Stark – While Robb is an honorable man, we’re also learning that he does not know how to play the game. He punished who he felt to be a traitor by death, but in return he lost many of his soldiers upset about his choice. He did come up with a new plan, though, to take back the original home of the Lannisters … but he needs the help of the very man whose daughter he was meant to marry. Think this is going to be trouble? We’re betting on it.

King’s Landing – There is quite a war brewing over Sansa Stark, with Margaery promising her to Loras. Meanwhile, Littlefinger still wants her for his own, the Lannisters managed to create quite a plan of their own: Have Tyrion marry her. Unfortunately, there was one person who was still very unhappy with this idea and that person is Tyrion. The only person more unhappy was Cersei, when she learned that Sansa was to marry Loras, thus giving the Tyrell’s control of the Reach as well as the North. Tywin is a smart, but very cruel man.

Arya and Stannis – These two plots were separate, but in some way also linked in a way courtesy of all the Lord of Light allusions. Personally we find these to be the dullest stories on the show, since Stannis is a sadsack and Arya seems to be stuck doing little other than getting angry and being dragged around. The biggest revelations were merely that Stannis’ daughter has a friendship with Davos, and that the Lord of Light can somehow bring men back to life.

The closing thought here is simple: This series keeps finding ways to get better and better and every week we are left wanting more.  What was your take on “Kissed By Fire”?
