MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 3 spoilers: Ashley Rickards on Jenna’s junior year
With the season premiere of “Awkward” just one day away, who better to look forward to the season with than Ashley Rickards? The actress steers the show’s ship as the main character / narrator Jenna Hamilton, and once again, her return to high school (this time for junior year) is going to bring with it some great change. She is seemingly happy on the surface in her relationship with Matty … but is she going to feel that way forever? This question is something that she is going to have to face both early and often as we progress through the story.
For more on some of the general themes of the episodes ahead, we turn to what Rickards had to say recently on the subject in an interview with The Huffington Post:
“I think this year, Jenna’s feeling the changes. I think it’s a frequent phenomenon, when you fall in love with somebody you also fall off the radar with all of your friends. Jenna is now having to figure that out, navigate it and really see if her friends are still there after returning from reliving [summer camp] with Matty, very in love. Tamara was off with Jake; a lot of things have changed. Junior year is a life change for her and she’s nervous and excited.”
One of the major challenges for Jenna this season away from the relationships is going to be trying to deal with a very difficult teacher (Anthony Michael Hall) who may be fantastic for her in the long run; but before she gets to a point of reflection, she has to find a way to survive him first.
