‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Will we see Kol again?

“The Vampire Diaries” continues to find ways to surprise us, including when it comes to reactions to specific people or events that unfold during the episode. For example, who knew that the Stefan / Rebekah pairing was going to be as interesting as it was when it first happened? Or, who knew that Kol would be a revelation in the short time that he was around this year?

Last season, it felt like Nathaniel Buzolic’s character was a little bit lost in the shuffle, only because there was another Original to deal with, and most of the storylines were geared towards Klaus. However, he had a little bit more time to step into the limelight this year … but then the character died.

But is it possible that we are going to see something more from Kol in the future? One of the joys about “The Originals” is that it is ripe for centuries’ worth of flashbacks, and we would be stunned if he is not featured at some point in there just for the sake of providing backstory for the characters who are alive. However, Julie Plec isn’t saying anything more at the moment other than the following line on her Twitter page:

“I’ve already said there’s a chance we’ll see Kol again. To say anymore would be either a spoiler or a lie.”

It is worth noting that the penultimate episode of the season is entitled “The Walking Dead,” and we are expected to see another appearance from Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy) and Matt Davis (Alaric) around that time. (Question: if a vampire comes back to life, are they the walking undead?) We’ll keep a lookout, but if Kol does come back at any point this season, it will definitely be a surprise.
