Kathy Griffin’s Bravo talk show reportedly canceled

Even though Kathy Griffin was able to have a hit on Bravo for many years in “My Life on the D-List,” she was unfortunately just not able to make the same thing work with her primetime talk show “Kathy.” There are some reports coming in from Cincinnati (where the comedian was performing stand-up this week) that Griffin said while on stage that the network is not going to renew her show.

So what was the biggest mistake with “Kathy”? It definitely wasn’t Griffin’s marketing plan, as she literally pushed for this show’s success in almost every interview that she did, including her New Year’s Eve special with Anderson Cooper. We really just think it was a symptom of her doing a late-night show in primetime, and Bravo already having a successful talk franchise in “Watch What Happens Live!” with Andy Cohen.

Had the network opted to air “Kathy” following Cohen’s show, and actually paired them up a la “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report,” we actually think that the show may have had more of a chance. However, the problem with that may have been that Griffin was operating her show seasonally like it was any of the network’s other reality series, so she would not have nearly enough episodes to match the sort of schedule that “Watch What Happens Live!” does.

Nonetheless, Griffin can’t be too torn up about the news given everything else that she has going on at the moment. After all, she is still a successful touring comic, and she recently did film a pilot for CNN with her good friend Cooper.
