‘Once Upon a Time’ spoilers: Paul Reubens joins ‘Wonderland’ spin-off pilot
If “Once Upon a Time” executive producers wanted to find a way to bring some extra attention to their upcoming 4-scene presentation for “Once: Wonderland,” they have now officially managed to do so.
According to a new report from Deadline, the iconic Paul Reubens (best known around the world as Pee-Wee Herman) has signed on to voice the White Rabbit in the fairy-tale project. Reubens is really the first recognizable actor to most Americans cast, at least if you don’t include the rumors that Barbara Hershey’s Cora will likely be featured again as the Queen on Hearts in the event that the series does ultimately manage to get picked up.
So what is the process going to be lack for getting this show pitched to the network? The idea of the four-scene presentation is that the producers will shoot a little bit of footage (which will be done at the conclusion of “Once Upon a Time” season 2 filming) in order to show what sort of ideas that they are thinking about for the project. It’s a little bit different than making a standard pilot episode, but ABC already knows who they are working with here in Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.
It could be May until an official decision is made about the series, but at the moment we’re still admittedly a little bit skeptical. What’s the problem here that could keep it from being picked up? At the moment, the only reason the network may be skeptical is that the “Once Upon a Time” ratings have dropped, and the threshold for success here may be lower. However, as a sort of 13-episode miniseries designed to bridge the gap between new episodes, we actually think that this is a pretty novel idea.
