‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Actress cast as Nina Dobrev of ‘Originals’
Every vampire series on The CW needs at least one young woman who starts the show off innocent to the world of supernatural creatures, and when it comes to “The Originals,” we now know just who will be this show’s version of Nina Dobrev’s Elena.
The network has confirmed that 24-year old Leah Pipes, who has made small appearances on such shows as “Malcolm in the Middle” and “Dreak & Josh,” has landed the role of Camille, a Tulane college student who is unexpectedly thrown into the world of supernatural beings in New Orleans. Her character is currently described as the female lead, which does make some sense given that executive producer Julie Plec likes to approach things from an outsider’s point of view.
The similarities between “The Originals” and “The Vampire Diaries” (which will air the spin-off show’s pilot on April 25) are starting to become palpable. While the flagship show featured two brothers with a complicated relationship in Stefan and Damon, this show will feature Klaus and Elijah. Meanwhile, they each also have the presence of a witch (or two, in the case of the spin-off) along with a werewolf (Tyler for “The Vampire Diaries,” Hayley for “The Originals”). It’s obvious that the series is going for an “if it ain’t broke” sort of philosophy through the development process, and are creating a combination of new characters and familiar faces that should work well.
With Camille’s casting, “The Originals” has its entire regular cast booked in the event that the show is picked up. This episode will film in the coming weeks, and The CW will use both that and possibly audience reaction to the backdoor pilot as it makes a decision as to whether or not to pick this show up.
