‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 6 spoilers: How does Penny impress Sheldon?

Did you love “The Big Bang Theory” on Thursday night? Numbers don’t lie, and the fact that the show posted a 6.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic (with the extra 0.1 coming in via the final numbers) despite massive competition shows that this gang of geeks is more popular than they have perhaps ever been.

So where does the story go next here? Based on the description for the upcoming episode “The Monster Isolation” (airing a week after Valentine’s Day) it appears that the show is really making an effort now to give Raj some sort of long-term story arc. Meanwhile, Sheldon Cooper, master of all things brilliant, is finally going to find something both shocking and impressive coming from Penny:

“After a terrible date, Koothrappali vows to never leave his apartment. Meanwhile, Penny actually impresses Sheldon with her acting skills.”

For those curious, this episode will feature the second consecutive appearance of Kate Micucci as Lucy, who Raj will be meeting next week. Early indications suggest that he is going to spend some of his time trying to romance her in a place where talking is not required (in the library), and for the time being he will probably have to get himself drunk out of his mind for the rest of the time in order to make things work out.

For the writers and producers on this show, they probably do see themselves in a pretty significant dilemma at the moment when it comes to Raj. They want the character to be happy, but if the love lives of everyone are set in stone somewhat now, how do they expect the show to build moving forward? They have managed to make seven regular characters work very well, but having eight (as they had with Kevin Sussman earlier in the year) made things a little messier.
