‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Daniel Gillies on spin-offs, flashbacks
Are you still celebrating the news that Daniel Gillies will be back on “The Vampire Diaries” as Elijah for its spin-off pilot “The Originals”? Well, you should be. Now, we also know some other exciting news straight from the network: if the show ends up getting picked up, one of its goals will be helping to flesh out some of the rich history that these ancient vampires all have with each other leading up to where they are today. This means that the entire Original family could end up having some sort of role, including dead brother Finn and possibly even Nathaniel Buzolic’s Kol (who may or may not be surviving the episode Thursday night depending on what happens).
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gillies also explained his general surprise at the project actually getting off the ground to begin with after such a long period of uncertainty:
“Julie Plec has been talking about this for a little while and to be honest with you, I never thought it was going to become a reality … I just thought it was a cool idea she threw around and I did not dare to dream that it would come to fruition. I knew that if it did, we would be a part of it, but I didn’t want to get ahead of myself. But I feel very blessed that it is closer to becoming a reality now.”
After the backdoor pilot airs, it will still be The CW’s decision as to whether or not they feel that this is a show that has much of a future to it at all. Personally, we would be absolutely stunned if a series is not ordered based on the flagship show’s ratings, especially with Elijah and Klaus being such popular additions to the cast.
