‘American Idol’ notes: David Archuleta, Adam Lambert, Casey James

American IdolIt’s not often that we get to have any news at all to present when it comes to David Archuleta; so with this in mind, it only seems appropriate to start off this edition of “American Idol” notes with a new music video featuring him.

This video is a remix of the song “Rainbow,” which is a part of his Filipino OPM album “Forevermore” that was released prior to him departing on a Mormon mission in South America. You have to really praise David and his team for being so patient at the moment: it would be easy for them to just throw out all of the recordings that they have done with David right away, but they are carefully releasing bits and pieces of music from the singer to keep fans remembering him while he is away.

We still have quite a while to wait until David returns to America, at least based on some current estimations.

More new music – Speaking of some new tunes, check out a pair of songs that Casey James premiered in Denver recently. In reality, these are just two of seven new songs that Casey performed during the show, and they are our favorites (in “That Girl” and “Breakin’ Through the Blue”).

So why show off so much new music at once? Think of it as a beta test: while it’s not always easy to generate big reactions from a crowd at a concert with music they’ve never heard before, this at least gives Casey a better idea as to what music for a potential sophomore release is working, and what is not. He still has some time to be patient, as “Crying on a Suitcase” is still getting play on the radio.

A promise for new music – We’ll close with these new tweets from Adam Lambert that are a nice reminder that there is some exciting new music on the way, and he is already meeting with his team to figure out the sound of his third album:

“Glamberts! I have so many ideas for my third studio album!!! So excited to start creating new recordings for you all! 2013 is gonna rock!! We have evolved together with For Your Entertainment and Trespassing…. #3 will be a brand new exploration! :)”

The good news about Adam starting so early with work on a new album (less than a year after “Trespassing” launched) is that it gives him plenty of time to work on making the songs perfect, which is a great thing considering that this method worked well in giving us one of the best pop releases of 2012.
