Sarah Michelle Gellar possibly returning to TV after ‘Ringer’ failure

Sarah Michelle GellarFor those of you who have missed seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar on your TV set as of late, you’re in luck: the actress may be close now to setting in stone a return in a format that we haven’t quite seen her before: a half-hour comedy.

According to TVLine, this project, which is being handled by the same studio in 20th Century Fox TV who produced “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” is a show that is largely about the sort of adventures that parents get into when their children are at home (which is hardly the most ingenious TV pitch that we have ever heard). Gellar is reportedly set to pay the wife / mother on the show, which has yet to even make it officially to the pilot stage. In other words, it still has a long ways to go, and there are plenty of hurdles it needs to jump through to make it on the air.

The idea of seeing Gellar in a comedy following the failure of the high-concept “Ringer” last year is something that may not be as foreign as you would at first think. Playing Buffy of course had its comedic moments, and she was Daphne in the two “Scooby-Doo” movies (though this is probably something that she would rather not remember after they were trashed terribly by critics and fans of the cartoon alike). Fox is also likely to have some openings for comedies, as “Ben and Kate,” despite being a very good show, is bombing. Meanwhile, “The Mindy Project” has just underwent a complete overhaul in order to fix its sagging ratings.

Do you want to see Gellar back on TV again, and in a comedy, no less? If you want to read some more about the latest show to try and success where “Ringer” failed, you can do so over here.
