‘The Carrie Diaries’ preview: What can we expect from the premiere?
There has already been a lot of controversy around the CW’s upcoming series “The Carrie Diaries” (which is supposed to be a prequel to “Sex and the City”), because of the network playing around with Carrie Bradshaw’s already established history. We are still trying to have high hopes for the show – mainly because they’ve cast AnnaSophia Robb as Carrie Bradshaw and she’s really great, but we aren’t convinced that this show is going to take off the way the network hopes it will.
Thanks to Spoiler TV we finally have an idea of what viewers can expect out of the first episode. With Carrie’s mother recently passing away and her father (Tom) being left to raise Carrie and her younger sister alone, Tom finds it a struggle to control his youngest daughter, Dorritt, who is acting out and being rebellious. We meet Carrie Bradshaw at age 16 as she starts her junior year at high school and with the passing of her mother, she feels that all eyes are on her. When she spots the new boy, Sebastian, at school things start looking up for Carrie, but what really gives her a new prospective on life is her Manhattan internship at a law firm. Carrie meets Larissa (a style editor at Interview magazine) while in New York and she is thrown into a world of fashion, parties and fun.
As much as we miss having “Sex and the City” on TV it seems like a pretty big risk for the CW to pick up a prequel to a show that has such a cult following behind it and not stick to the history that has already been established. “Sex and the City” has become the “Star Trek” for women, where we dress up as our favorite characters to go to the movie premieres, have cosmos at every bar we go to and have closets full of Manolo Blahnik shoes (all right that last one is really just in our dream closet), so to create a show based on Carrie Bradshaw and not follow the history already created, it seems like a recipe for disaster – guess we’ll see how it all shakes out.
Be sure to tune into the CW on Monday, January 14th at 8 p.m. to catch the series premiere of “The Carrie Diaries” and let us know if you think the show will be a big success or a giant flop.
