‘American Idol’ season 12: Want to watch Mariah Carey’s debut early?

American IdolTechnically, the new season of “American Idol” featuring Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban as judges is not slated to premiere on Fox until Wednesday, January 16 … but luckily, Fox is giving some lucky fans the opportunity to check out the show a little bit early.

A little earlier this week, the network announced that they will be holding a live event on Wednesday, January 9 at a number of movie theaters around the country. Not only will you have a chance to watch the season premiere a week before everyone else, but there will also be a live Q&A session after the screening featuring not only all four judges, but host Ryan Seacrest. (What do you want to bet that someone asks about the feud between Carey and Minaj?) The event begins at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time, and you can check out a full list of locations below:

New York City: AMC Empire 25, New York, NY
Philadelphia: AMC Plymouth 12, Plymouth Meeting, PA

What we think is the most notable about “American Idol” doing this is that it is a pretty large indicator that they are proud of their end product, and they believe that showing both it and the panel off early is a chance to build word-of-mouth. This is something the show desperately needs at the moment, as singing competitions are slowly starting to kill each other off; but “American Idol” remains the original and the best, or at least it will so long as the quality of judging improves.
