‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: What’s next for Caroline and Tyler?

There have been a good many fans of “The Vampire Diaries” who have cheered with some regularity for Caroline and Klaus to end up together, but based on the killing spree that Joseph Morgan’s character went on during the midseason finale earlier this month, it’s starting to look pretty unlikely that we are going to be seeing these two Mystic Falls faces hook up at any point in the near future. (Heck, we’re not sure that Caroline was really that interested in doing so to begin with.)

So could these two drifting further apart mean good things for the future of Caroline with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Tyler? Based on some new comments made by executive producer Julie Plec in a brand-new interview with TVLine, it does very much look as though you can not write the two parties off at any point in the near future:

“Tyler’s going to struggle, and Caroline’s going to struggle in trying to help him. But if there’s one thing those two have proven again and again, it’s that when situations are at their most dire and their most extreme, they find a way to be there for each other. I think we can rest easy that that won’t have changed yet.”

What is interesting in here is that Plec did not necessarily say anything about these two characters being romantic, though it does appear as though they will at least have some scenes together moving forward. At the moment, it is possible that Michael Trevino’s character may be too preoccupied with the death of his mother to even have romance in the forefront of his mind.
