‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8 spoilers: Another challenge for Barney, Robin

There was clearly some great news for Barney / Robin shippers everywhere on the “How I Met Your Mother” season 8 midseason finale last week: they’ve now magically gone from not even dating to engaged! As anyone who has watched this show surely knows by now, though, this is far from the end of the story.

With that in mind, we turn to another all-important question courtesy of executive producer Carter Bays: just what happens now? We obviously know already that this couple is not going to get married without going through the wringer, especially when it comes to the extremely-imposing man known as the World Wide News reporter’s dad, but there is another issue that is going to come up in Robin’s own inability to have children:

“We’re still sorting out how we deal with it … But that’s an issue that’s going to have to come up. It’s going to have be a part of what they talk about.”

While this is certainly going to be the source of a great deal of emotion, the good news for both characters these days is that there are so many other ways in which having children is possible. They could try some alternative ways that Barney could have a child with some of his “legendary seed” passed down, or they could also consider adoption. Who knows? It’s also possible that they could be one of those couples who moves forward without any plans to have children at all, and they could still live a thoroughly happy life.

We should find out the answer to this issue before the wedding between the two parties … which, given the show’s recent season 9 renewal, is probably now not likely to happen until May 2014.
