‘American Idol’ season 12: Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey talk being judges
In beginning with Minaj, what makes her promo interesting is that she opens up a little bit about her journey, how she worked so hard in order to be successful whether it be by performing in the New York underground scene or locking herself in a room in order to write songs. Her critiques thus far sound a little bit convoluted (at least in that she feels as though she is saying the same sort of thing time after time), but we do like her pledge to be honest, and that sometimes you need to be told to work harder in order for your dreams to come true. (We wish someone had said that to Jennifer Lopez.)
As for the Carey promo, it is rather similar in that she talks about how ambition is so important in being an artist, and how her story as a waitress reminds her of where some of these contestants are now. One commonality that they both share is that (in a move that is likely the result of producer influence) they each spend a few minutes talking about what makes “American Idol” better than all of the other singing shows currently out there.
