‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Next step of Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev

Are we ever going to see the sire bond between Elena and Damon broken on “The Vampire Diaries”? While the two may have made some progress during the season 4 midseason finale Thursday night, progress only goes so far when there’s really no way to completely break the bond … at least save for making an enormous move and finding a cure for what is actually making Elena a member of the undead.

But are we going to get a complete answer soon as to how genuine the feelings are for Nina Dobrev’s character? Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Julie Plec teased that this revelation is going to be a rather tricky one to navigate, at least when it comes to the issues at the moment involving the two characters:

“Until the sire bond fundamentally doesn’t exist – which as long as Elena’s a vampire, it seems to be [the question of her feelings is] going to be in play – we’ll have to ask ourselves those questions. But the journey of Elena trying to get to the bottom of how she feels and expressing herself to him is going to be part of the ride. ‘Cause she, in fact, really believes what she feels is 100 percent genuine and real. She feels like she’s got the evidence to back it up, in that there wouldn’t be a sire bond to begin with if there wasn’t some kind of love there. It’s a tale of a couple who wants to be together and realizes that they shouldn’t, yet really wants to.”

The basic translation that we take from this is that there will continue to be a great deal of confusion between Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder’s vampires, but also a great bit of heat. If Stefan thinks that he is going to have an easy time getting over just what is happening around him, he’s going to be in for a shock as time passes.
