The moment that she started to sing “I Am Changing” in the style of Jennifer Hudson, we knew that she’d be great. We don’t think you pick this song unless you mean business. What was so special about it is that she held a lot of those notes out. She didn’t just make the entire performance about runs, which is something that a lot of people often do in this situation.
We’re pretty confident that Alyssa moving forward could do almost any song she wants to — as long as she has this power behind her voice and keeps her same personality, people will vote for her. Luke Bryan had it right when discussing Alyssa’s presence — she was memorable from the moment that we first saw her. That’s not easy to pull off.
So could Alyssa be the favorite to win American Idol this season? It’s way too early to know that for sure, but she definitely has some potential. These are the auditions that we like to see at the end of every episode — the ones that people will be talking about for a long time.
