‘Dexter’ season 7 finale spoilers: The first promo (and a LaGuerta shocker)
Is it time for Dexter Morgan to run? This is at least what the conscience known as Harry is telling his in the first promo for Sunday night’s season 7 finale, appropriately titled “Surprise, Motherf–ker.” This is going to be the episode where everything changes, and by the end of it we expect to see either Dexter in handcuffs, Deb in handcuffs, or LaGuerta either dead or off the force. There are only so many ways in which this ends, but we are not looking at a situation here where these characters can just go back to life being what it was for them a few weeks ago.
Promos are often misleading, but the final seconds here will clearly be what everyone talks about over the next few weeks, as LaGuerta reads Dexter his rights while putting him in handcuffs. Is this a dream sequence? It seems impossible that the producers would show us such a pivotal moment in a preview unless it were either something inside of Dexter’s head, or a part of the middle of the story that is not necessarily the end. Given the police captain’s emotional attachment to the case, it is possible she arrests Dexter without the necessary evidence, and the episode becomes about trying to disprove her.
Hannah McKay is also not gone from the season just yet, as the promo shows her with both Dexter and Deb at different times. We wrote in our episode review that it was possible that Deb deliberately spiked her water battle to convince Dexter to pull the trigger on her arrest, but since then we’ve though of another interesting theory: maybe it was actually Arlene who did it, knowing that Hannah would be the prime suspect while also being well aware of the fact that Deb would still be able to survive the overdose.
Do you think that Dexter is really getting arrested here? If you want to check out a new photo from the finale featuring Dexter and LaGuerta, you can do so here.
