Caleb Carroll performs National Anthem at Detroit Lions Thanksgiving

CBS

Today marked the annual Thanksgiving Day NFL game featuring the Detroit Lions, and the of course meant one of the most notable National Anthem performances of the year. (The game aired on CBS late this morning/early afternoon based on where you live.)

So who was front and center today for it? Think in terms of Caleb Carroll, a young singer-songwriter who delivered a memorable performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” accompanied by himself on piano. This was a simple, understated, and yet beautiful version of the anthem. Sometimes, it’s not about how loud you can sing or how many big notes you can hit; it’s about taking people on a journey. This was a fantastic way to kick off what should be an interesting day of NFL football.

Let’s face it — the Lions are probably not playoff-bound, and the same goes for the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, or Washington Football Team, who are all playing today. Yet, Thanksgiving is all about tradition. Even if you don’t love football or even the Lions, there’s still a chance that you check out the game today. After all, it’s just something great to have on while you make a turkey or prepare the rest of your meal. (Remember, there is no night game tonight between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens — that has been delayed until Sunday due to virus protocol.)

Now, our hope is that Caleb Carroll gets a chance to perform at Ford Field again down the road, back when there are fans in the stands and an opportunity for him to get some applause. These are difficult times, and we appreciate him coming out for this performance.

We expect there to be some sort of performances that happen during the Cowboys game later — we’ll have some more updates once we get to see those in action.

What do you think about Caleb Carroll’s performance of National Anthem at the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day game?
