‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder’s Damon has a new look

Who doesn’t love a good “Vampire Diaries” flashback episode? We teased yesterday that we are going to see a love interest for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) that was in the past; and while we do not have a photo of this woman, whose name is Charlotte, just yet, we do at least have something else worth sharing at the moment: more news about a returning face from the past (literally and figuratively).

According to a new report from Entertainment Weekly, Arielle Kebbel is set to reprise her role as Stefan (Paul Wesley)’s friend and support system Lexi in the December 6 installment, which will feature both Salvatore brothers during World War II. Bloodshed on a great level is something that the two are already familiar with courtesy of what they went through in the Civil War, but this will be an entirely new sort of experience for them given the advancements in technology since that time.

So what is the real reason behind this flashback? That much is still a mystery, though traditionally the show will not send us back to an earlier time without there being some sort of concrete reason for it. It is possible that Charlotte is a vampire who turns up in the present day, or it could be equally likely that we end up seeing some plot element linked to the search for the vampire cure that was initiated by the arrival of Connor in Mystic Falls.

Thankfully, we are going to end up learning in a few weeks regardless. What do you think about this image?
